RCMP are warning of potential traffic disruption on Highway 2 in Central Alberta over the weekend as an Axe the Tax protest site sprung up earlier this week near Lacombe.

“Disruptions to traffic flow from the protest on (Highway 2) has been minimal at this point,” RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, said in a Friday statement. “With fairly good weekend weather we can expect an increase in protesters. This combined with traffic congestion could present a safety issue.”

Some Axe the Tax protesters moved on Monday, April 22 from the Highway 1 protest area south of Cochrane to a location on the side of Highway 2 near Lacombe at the Juniper Lake rest stop.

RCMP advise that often times the Axe the Tax protests have included vehicles conducting a “slow roll” consisting of a small convoy of vehicles driving below the speed limit on the highways. Motorist are advised to expect delays or take alternates routes.

Many of those currently at the Juniper Lake rest stop have been protesting for 27 days now.
